Performing & Creative Arts

The Performing and Creative Arts program at The Epiphany School of Global Studies is intended to expose students to—and offer our students a chance to excel in—theater, dance, music, drawing, painting, mixed media, and international crafts.

It is widely understood that the performing and creative arts provide important mediums for self-expression. By tapping into a student’s latent creativity, exposure to and participation in the arts allows students to explore and express their emotions in a healthy way. While some may view performing in front of an audience as a nerve-wracking experience, the opportunity to perform in front of an encouraging crowd allows students to grow in confidence and talent—stretching their boundaries and revealing their gifts. For some students, the performing and creative arts are a way to pursue a dream; for others, the arts are simply a way to stretch beyond their comfort zones. Either way, the performing and creative arts benefit our students, and our students value the numerous opportunities to master these challenges.

The performing and creative arts are areas of emphasis and growing importance at the school. We are committed to offering dramatic performances by students from the Upper School that will regularly attended by sold-out crowds in our 540-seat Performing Arts Center. As the program continues to grow, there are plans to offer students from the Middle, Elementary, and Primary Schools the chance to participate in age-appropriate productions as well. It’s our intention to create choral and instrumental music programs that can be enjoyed by the entire New Bern community, and that our students will have the opportunity to study music from around the world. We are committed to developing a “String Program” in the Elementary, Middle, and Upper Schools, and it’s our hope that it becomes one of the most popular activities offered at Epiphany. In addition to regularly scheduled performances by ensembles in our music department, we host an audition-only Talent Show every year, which is one of the highlights during Spirit Week. In the visual arts, opportunities abound in drawing, painting, mixed media, and creative sculpture which are displayed at multiple art programs throughout the year.

All in all, we are committed to developing a Performing and Creative Arts program at The Epiphany School of Global Studies that will become one of the cornerstones of our unique educational experience.
