Continuing with photos from the Epiphany family trip, we had one very full, beautiful day in Switzerland! The weather was gorgeous. We rode cable cars to the top of Mt. Pilatus - one of the majestic peaks that towers over Lucerne. After riding up 7,000 feet, we toured around the visitor center and stepped outside into the snow. We even saw caves where the dragons live! After descending Mt. Pilatus, we traveled into the lovely city of Lucerne for sight-seeing and shopping. We walked the Chapel Bridge, saw the Jesuit Church, and toured the many beautiful landmark squares.

Our Epiphany family trip adventures continue...we're going to show you a one-day road trip that took us through FOUR countries! We started in Munich at the Olympic Park stopping at Ettal Abbey, Linderhof Palace (home to the reclusive "fairytale King", King Ludwig II, crowned in 1864). We saw the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle - as majestic as the alps surrounding it - briefly driving through Austria, and on to Liechtenstein (Vaduz). We eventually stopped at a beautiful hotel near the water's edge in Weggis, Switzerland.

Today we're sharing pictures from the Salzburg and Berchtesgaden day of our family trip with Epiphany. We watched "The Sound of Music" on the bus on the way to Salzburg, with the beautiful Alps as our backdrop. Once we arrived, we visited the famous spots from the movie in addition to the birthplace and residence of Mozart. After some souvenir shopping, we rode to the salt mine in Berchtesgaden, where visitors go to celebrate the uninterrupted 500-year mining of "white gold" from the depths of the Alps. We slid down two slides (110 feet and 140 feet into the shaft). We rode a boat on mirror lake, we took a fast train deep into the cave, and we learned how pumps and drills made salt mining more efficient through the 500-year history of the Petersberg tunnel.

Our students and staff were treated to a beautiful concert by the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra this morning! Musicians played on original or reconstructed Baroque-period instruments. Between performances, the musicians showed students the differences in their instruments and modern instruments, and they explained why they were so different. At the end of the hour, students were allowed to ask questions. This was an incredible opportunity for our school! We learned so much, especially as we tied in music to the time period some of them are studying. Thank you to the NC Baroque Orchestra, Jenn Baer with Craven Community College, and our FOTA members for making this performance possible.

We are so proud of all 15 students who gave campaign speeches today as they ran for officer positions. We also heard a wonderful message about leadership from Mr. Seeger.

It's 'Music in Our Schools' month, and we are really celebrating at Epiphany. Our Chapel today was packed full of music - Pastor Kirk interviewed choral music/concert band instructor Mabel Rosney for his "Chapel Chat, Teacher Edition." Mrs. Rosney shared the message that you need to 'try everything, try anything' along your journey through life, even if you fail at times. We were also entertained by Mr. Spence on fiddle and Mr. Tart on guitar. The grand finale consisted of two more lip sync battle performances. We also reminded everyone to join us Saturday night for the Trent Campus Talent Show at 7 p.m. Come support our artists and performers!

The N.C. Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation hosts the North Carolina Aviation Art Contest each year to inspire and engage young people in aviation. The contest theme for 2023 is “Air Sports & The Environment." The contest offers children ages 6-17 who live or attend schools in North Carolina the chance to explore different aspects of aviation. Many of Epiphany's visual arts students placed in the competition this year. Quarterfinalists: Diana Algharaibeh, Darby Donahue, Emilie Friesen, Kathryn Griggs, Sophia Husted, Esther Ku, Jasmin Livingston, Zabby Memering, Pawry Shell, Alistair Smith, Leah Standen, and Paw Thah. Semifinalists: Arielle Pumphrey and Angelique Pysden. We had one student reach the finalist level: Ann Lawson King. Her mixed media piece, "Soaring Mountains," is seen here. The Epiphany School of Global Studies is a proud sponsor of Empty Bowls, an uplifting event that unites businesses, religious and civic groups, professional and amateur potters, and restaurants as collective creative energies make a difference in the lives of others. Money raised at the event goes to local stop-hunger charities and arts programming in Craven County. In addition to sponsoring, many Epiphany students and teachers donated their time today serving soup, welcoming guests, and unloading bowls. Helping others in our community is the perfect way to wrap up our enrichment week.

The Lower School Talent Show last night was a blast! We were entertained by magicians, instrumentalists, funny emcees, vocalists, and a gymnast. Epiphany parent Marisa McDonald captured these beautiful images for us. Check out her site at https://marisamcdonaldphotography.com if you want to see more of her work.
